Happy Wednesday guys! I am so excited to share this post with you all today. As (most of) you know I recently moved to Pittsburgh and was so nervous about finding a new hair stylist in the area. Especially with being blonde it’s hard to find a someone that can color your hair well and not damage it.
I reached out to my new community Facebook page to ask for recommendations for a stylist and multiple people recommended Amanda at Salon Bella Vita. When I called in she was able to schedule an appointment for me quickly. On the day of my appointment she was so nice and welcoming. She asked me what my goals were for my hair and then showed me different hair color swatches to choose from. After that she went to work on my hair. While she was coloring my hair we chatted about how to maintain my healthy golden locks.
She offered some great advice about that I think anyone who colors, blow dries or even wants just overall healthy hair could benefit from.
First, she used a product system called Olaplex while she did my hair. Olaplex has been a total break through in the hair industry. It’s a 3 part system that works on the molecular level of your hair to rebuild broken bonds and strengthen your hair. The first two parts are completed at the salon and the third part you take home with you. I use it on my hair twice a week while I am in the shower. It’s only been 2 weeks now of using it but I can already tell a huge difference in the strength of my hair. It feels thicker and less fragile. This stuff seems like a miracle in a bottle!
Next, we spoke about the importance of the quality of your Shampoo and Conditioner. I use Redken Color Extend to preserve by highlights and low lights. I usually wash my hair every 3 days and use dry shampoo in between. I also try to deep condition my hair once a week. I will usually just leave my regular conditioner in my hair after I shower, sleep with it on and wash it out in the morning. Easy breezy.
Another important piece of advice was to make sure that you protect your hair before you style it! After I get out of the shower and before I even brush my hair, I use Redken One United. It’s a leave in spray that has over 25 benefits that include detangling hair, anti-frizz properties, a heat protectant and so much more. It makes brushing your hair out a lot easier and blowdrying even seem to go by quicker. If you use hot tools, use a heat protector. I use Redken Iron Guard and spray it on each section of hair before I take the curling iron to it. I put the curling iron on a low setting, around 250 degrees, (so you don’t fry your hair) then will spray and curl each section. What I really love about the Redken Iron Guard is that it has a memory competent in it, so it holds your curls! That is a big difference compared to other heat protectors I have used in the past. Sometimes I don’t even need to use hair spray afterwards because my curls are already held in place. Love it!
Lastly, try sleeping on a silk pillow case. Sleeping on a silk pillow case not only is good for your hair but it’s also good for your skin. It has anti-aging properties because the silk reduces hard pulling on your face while you sleep. I read that Audrey Hepburn used to sleep on silk pillow case for this reason. The silk also reduces the infamous “bed head” and you really do wake up with smooth hair. This one is my favorite. (I even got Tom one too.)
I hope these tips are helpful! I definitely learned a lot at my last hair appointment.
If you are in the Pittsburgh area, you have to give Amanda at Salon Bella Vita a visit.
**Amanda was also nice enough to off $20 off to all new clients who tell her about this post.**
All of the hair products mentioned above (besides the pillow case) can also be found at Salon Bella Vita.
Also, a big THANK YOU to Amanda for making my hair look so fab!
