I am so excited to share with you guys about a new kind of grocery experience that is being delivered by Walmart, called Walmart InHome. This service delivers fresh groceries right to your fridge, even when you are not home! They just launched in Pittsburgh this month and I was able to try out the service and I have to say, I am so impressed!! Be sure to check out the end of this post for a discount code!
Let’s get started:
For starters, I first checked out the “how it works” section on the Walmart InHome’s page to see how the process worked and after I learned the ins and outs, I decided to join! Next, I clicked on the “get started” tab and set up an appointment. Walmart offers the option to use your garage door or front door for entry and I chose the garage door option. (You can chose the garage door option even if your don’t have a fridge in your garage by the way!) I was able to make an appointment for installation within a week which was nice and picked a day when I was home because you need to be there for the installation.
Installation day:
On the day of my appointment, the Walmart associate called me an hour before they were on their way. When they got there they were so nice, answered all of my questions and reviewed the Walmart InHome policy with me. After 30 minutes the installation was complete and I was able to start ordering groceries!
Some helpful advice for installation day would be to make sure you have both the orange Walmart Grocery App and Walmart InHome App downloaded on your phone beforehand. And make sure you know your internet credentials – Wi-Fi name & password.
Placing my first Walmart InHome Delivery order:
The thing I was most surprised about was that anything on the Walmart grocery app is also available for InHome delivery!! Which includes WAY more than just food, you can order paper towels, laundry detergent, over the counter medicine like Advil and more! Download the orange Walmart Grocery app and take a look for yourself, there are so many things they deliver.
When it came to placing my order, it was really simple. I just went to the orange Walmart grocery app, picked out my groceries, (they have so many organic items now!) and added them to my cart. On the check out page there was a new tab “InHome” that I was able to select, I then picked my day for delivery and the order was good to go. You also have up until 1am before the day of delivery to modify your order. So if you forget something or need to change the order you can!
Using the Walmart InHome app:
Now for the fun part, I have to talk about the Walmart InHome app experience. The app itself is really clean and user friendly. During the delivery process it notifies you every step of the way. The Walmart employee also wears a camera and films the entire experience LIVE. The camera has to be on before they can even enter your home and the whole time they are delivering your groceries you can watch the video streamed LIVE to your phone. After delivery, the video is then saved in your Walmart InHome app and you can re-watch it for up to 7 days after.
On the day of delivery, I was notified on my phone when my order was on it’s way, when my garage was opened, when the food was delivered and when my garage door was shut.
The Walmart InHome service:
As for the Walmart InHome delivery service, it went so smooth. The Walmart associate turned on his camera right when he got there. I was able to watch him put shoe covers on, pull everything out of the car, bring it in my home, put everything away nicely in my refrigerator, pack up and then leave. Being able to watch the whole thing live from my phone gave me a sense of security and I liked that I could also watch it again the next day.
Also, it’s important to know that the Walmart associates who deliver the groceries have been working for Walmart for at least a year, (ours worked for Walmart for 10 years!) Plus, they run 4 background checks on them and Walmart insures their delivery associates for up to 1 million dollars in damages. So, if anything is damaged, you are covered!
Other Perks:
- The Walmart InHome app also does other things – you can open and close your garage whenever you want. For example, if you are at work and need to open the garage for a neighbor or dog walker, you can do it from the InHome app.
- You can also have Walmart InHome deliver groceries when you are home too! The process still works the same.
- The cost! Your first month is free and then it’s only $19.95 a month with unlimited deliveries during the month as long as your order is $30+. I also should add that there is a one time installation fee of $49.95 but honestly, we have been paying per delivery every week (around $10 a week) and changing to Walmart InHome saves us the money right there!
Overall thoughts + promo code:
Overall, this is SO neat! This process is going to save me so much time! It was SO NICE to come home to a refrigerator full of groceries and I did not have to make 10 trips back and forth to the car to unpack them. I truly feel this is going to change they way we grocery shop. Thank you Walmart for letting me experience the Walmart InHome service. This is going to be great, especially for busy families like us! Walmart InHome was nice enough to offer a discount code of $10 off your first order with “INHOME10”.
Lastly, below are some of my favorite grocery items from Walmart:
